According to Wccftech, a setting called “Model training on text” is enabled by default, and unless manually disabled, Microsoft receives images and game data from users. The check showed that this option was activated on a number of devices without notifying their owners.

Additionally, Copilot can use voice dialogue during games, although this option is not initially active. The service also saves correspondence with the user and personalization data.

You can turn off collection via Game Bar → Gaming Copilot → Settings → Privacy settings, where manual control of the parameters is possible.

The incident caused a wave of criticism. Between price increases on Xbox Series and Game Pass and recent layoffs at Microsoft, users are accusing the company of intrusively collecting data under the guise of “AI improvements.”
