HE Google Maps this week the app received major updates with new functionality. In addition to the functionality to enable entry and exit notifications for location sharing, the app also brings a new photorealistic 3D view of famous places and more detailed routes for cyclists.

Google calls the first new feature “top view”. It is a computerized re-creation of popular Map locations that aims to provide the user with a 3D view and “feel” of place. The idea, according to the company, is to help plan sights, for example, during a trip.

The second innovation is not a new feature, but an extension of something Google Maps is already doing. The app will now provide cyclists with more detailed bike routes, paying attention to relevant information for riders where the update is available. The app will inform, for example, the routes with the most bike lanes and warn of roads with too many hills or too steep.

Detailed bike routes will be available in select cities.

According to Google, 3D aerial views are already rolling out, and detailed bike routes are starting to arrive “in the coming weeks.”
