The Bank of Russia has extended restrictions on foreign currency cash withdrawals for another six months, until March 9, 2023, the regulator said in a statement.

The Central Bank of the Russian Federation extended restrictions on the withdrawal of foreign currency in cash for another six months

The cash withdrawal limit in foreign currency from an account or deposit in foreign currency is maintained in the amount of $10,000 or the same amount in euros.

“The Bank of Russia is forced to maintain these and other restrictions on cash in connection with the current sanctions against Russia, which prohibit Russian financial institutions from acquiring cash in Western countries,” explains the Central Bank.

Until March 9, 2023, restrictions on the purchase of foreign currency are also maintained: banks can sell to citizens only euros and US dollars received in their boxes after April 9, 2022.

The restrictions do not apply to the sale of other foreign currencies.

For legal entities resident for another six months, from September 9, 2022 to March 9, 2023, the restrictions on receiving foreign exchange for travel expenses have been extended: not more than $5,000 or not more than the equivalent of this amount in euros, pounds sterling, Japanese yen.

For the first time, the Bank of Russia restricted the possibility of citizens receiving foreign cash for half a year on March 9: until September 9, in bank tellers (not at ATMs), customers could only withdraw cash from accounts and deposits, and only in dollars within $ 10 000. Savings in other currencies or above the limit, if necessary, withdrawals can only be converted into rubles. People could buy currency only in non-monetary form, it was impossible to do this in a branch with the subsequent cash receipt.
