Cinema Park and Formula Kino, Russia’s largest combined cinema chain (owning 76 cinemas with 585 screens), will start offering visitors a new service, a cinema product, from August 1. It will include a Russian film and “foreign video materials”.
The first film product of the network will include cartoons: the Russian Koschey. Nachalo (Studio Parovoz) and Minions: Gruvitation from Universal Pictures (UPI), Vedomosti writes with reference to Alexei Vasyasin, CEO of the film network. Vasyasin did not answer the question of where exactly the cinema network would take a copy of the film “Minions: Gruvitation.”
In the future, the cinema chain will expand the offer, it can include “any film from a foreign studio that has come out of Russia,” Vasyasin said.
The cost of a film product will be affected by the city where the screening will take place and the time of the screening: the minimum price for a morning screening in the regions will be 168 rubles, the maximum – for a night screening in Moscow – 670. rubles.
The movie chain plans to share the profits from the sale of a movie product, including a Hollywood movie, but only with Russian distributors and producers. The percentage will depend on the terms of the license agreement of the Russian film (usually cinemas keep 50% of the film’s box office).
Vasyasin stressed that the launch of a new service is a necessary measure. Since the closing of the Hollywood studios in March of this year, movie theaters have lost most of their income. The network also hopes to attract the attention of the Ministry of Culture to start developing a unified plan to get out of this situation.
