According to market researcher Canalys, worldwide smartphone sales in the last quarter were 11% less than in the first quarter of 2021. The analyst points to several factors, such as the low demand expected at this time of year. This decline is also due to the war in Ukraine, the Covid-19 quarantines in China and high inflation.

As usual, Samsung is at the top with a 24% market share. Apple’s share also grew, taking second place with 18%. Xiaomi and Oppo (including OnePlus) lost 1 point compared to the first quarter of 2021, followed by Vivo with a decrease of 2 points.

Canalys states that while the iPhone 13 series continues to score well, Apple has achieved good sales figures in the middle segment thanks to the new iPhone SE. Samsung will compete strongly with Galaxy A devices on the lower end, in the more expensive segment the Galaxy S22 series is not bad.

The new iPhone SE has been on sale since March 18.

Finally, there seems to be some good news: the analyst claims stock shortages could improve faster than expected, resulting in lower costs.
