The new genipavirus is called “Langya” or langya henipa virus, LayV. Patients infected with it have been found in the Chinese provinces of Shandong and Henan.
Sick people have the following symptoms: fever, malaise, cough, myalgia, nausea and vomiting. Scientists say Lanya is similar to the Nipah virus.
“So it can be said that we should be vigilant about this new virus but not panic,” said Wang Linfa, professor of medicine at the National University of Singapore.
