The first virtual reality headset Apple is coming in early 2023, but it won’t be cheap. On the contrary. So says Ming-Chi Kuo, a prolific analyst who specializes in the behind-the-scenes work of the Cupertino company.
Ming-Chi Kuo also tries to anticipate the movements of . in this case Appleand he does so thanks to his privileged sources – employees of the company, but also of his suppliers – and thanks to his instincts as a seasoned analyst.
According to Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple will present its first headset with an ad-hoc event for January 2023. In other words, Apple doesn’t want its new product to share the stage with other devices. Therefore, the launch will take place with an event exclusively dedicated to virtual and augmented reality.
The analyst also anticipates the possible price of the product. As has been speculated by several other sources in the past, the headset will not come cheap at all. Forget a product designed for the masses, the product that may arrive in several years. The first Apple’s VR headset costs over $2,000. It will be a product designed for an extremely demanding audience. How demanding? Well, enough to want a product with 8K resolution12 cameras for tracking hand movements and a latest generation processor (Kuo speaks of the M1 Pro, but other sources expect an M2).
But despite the price, Ming-Chi Kuo says Apple expects to sell at least 1.5 million units in 12 months. A long way from the nearly 100 million iPhones sold each year, of course, but still not negligible.
