Benchmarks: The M1 Ultra processor was about on par with the Nvidia RTX 3090 in benchmarks, but significantly weaker in games

A video comparison of the M1 Max, M1 Ultra processors and the Nvidia RTX 3090 graphics card was released on the Digital Foundry YouTube channel.

In benchmarks, the M1 Ultra was not far behind the RTX 3090, and sometimes overtook it. For example, in the 3D Mark Wild Life Extreme test, the video card showed 254.2 FPS, and Mac Studio with M1 Ultra – 212.6 FPS. The worst result was the M1 Max chip – 121 FPS.

The Blender M1 Ultra scored 195.9 points while the RTX 3090 only passed 178.1 points. Cinebench R23 beat the RTX 3090.

Worst of all, Apple processors found themselves in games. In Shadow of the Tomb Raider, at maximum graphics settings at 4K resolution, the M1 Ultra only managed 49fps, while the RTX 3090 delivered 65fps.

The difference in Metro Exodus at 4K and ultra settings was even more noticeable, with the M1 Ultra at 34.8 FPS and the RTX 3090 at 71.6 FPS.
