It would be better to keep only the stroke. At the same time, for selection, both gestures work clearly and without failures. As in the case of deletion, you cannot select only part of the word. First you need to split it.
4. Insert text. If you missed or forgot a word while typing, you can easily insert it without manually capturing the cursor. Just pause the style at the insertion pass and the text will move to the right to make room for new input.
The option works quickly and conveniently, there is no need to intercept the style and focus on the cursor position.
5. Separation and unification. This gesture allows you to split a word into several or vice versa – combine characters, remove the space between them. This is done by drawing a vertical line from top to bottom.
It seems to me that it would be more logical to leave the selection gesture the same, but to merge, change the direction to the opposite. Based on testing experience, I will say that this is the highest frequency of gestures. It should be used when not deleting or highlighting the entire written word. You must first divide it, delete or highlight the one you need, and then close it with the rest.
Where handwriting works
