Music mixing is a disaster at Spotify right now, but that will change in the coming weeks. For those who want to listen to the songs in a random order, there will be a special shuffle button. This will make it easy to mix music on Spotify.

Late last year, Spotify made a radical change to its streaming service: At a request from singer Adele, the shuffle button on albums was removed. “It’s not without reason that we make our albums so carefully and think about the song order for nothing. Our art tells a story, and those stories should be heard as they should be heard,” Adele said on Twitter at the time.

two buttons

But Spotify is now reversing the decision and still wants to offer a middle ground for those who want to listen to music in a random order. For example, the iOS and Android versions of the app for paid members will have a separate shuffle button in addition to the play button in the coming weeks. Nothing changes for the desktop version of Spotify: You can always keep mixing on a PC.

With this selection, Spotify hopes to create some clarity for listeners. Because even though the shuffle option was gone from Spotify’s mobile apps last year, it was always possible to play music in a random order with a detour. Although there is no longer an option in the album, the option appears again after clicking on a random song.

Soon there will be a shuffle option next to the available play button.

Other major streaming services, including Apple Music and Amazon Music, already have two separate play and shuffle buttons, and Spotify could no longer be left behind, especially after criticism of the current obscure play button in mobile apps.

Not for free members

The separate shuffle button will not be available to free Spotify users, because with a free subscription it is not possible to listen to songs in chronological order at all. So if you want to determine the order of the numbers yourself, you need to buy a subscription.

Other changes

Spotify has been looking for ways to continue innovating for some time, including launching new features. Spotify Curators is the latest achievement where listeners are in control. Few listeners now have the opportunity to create their own Spotify-driven playlists.
