The incident took place in February 2021, when doctors were not working due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The man noticed a lump in his child’s genital area and sent a photo of him at the nurse’s request. After examining the picture, the doctor prescribed antibiotics that cured the infection.
Then, two days later, the man received a notification from Google that his accounts had been suspended for content that “severely violates Google policy and may be illegal.”
A Google spokesperson told reporters that the company only scans users’ personal pictures if the user takes “certain actions”; this can apparently involve backing up images to Google Photos.
