Experts from the Wake Forest School of Medicine tested how various physical activities affect the brain function of the elderly. For this, they selected 296 people with memory problems and sedentary lifestyles and divided them into two groups. The first group regularly did moderate and high-intensity aerobic exercises, the second – stretching, balance, range-of-motion exercises (i.e. less intense).

These exercises turned out to be beneficial for both groups of people. In total, study participants exercised for half an hour or more while exercising four days a week. After one year, all participants’ memory and thinking indicators did not worsen at all.

What this means is that adults who do little exercise and are at risk of developing dementia can prevent or slow cognitive decline. For this, they need to devote time to sports regularly.
