Road safety continues to be one of the main tasks of the General Directorate of Road Traffic with the inclusion of new regulations and even more so with the recent release of a new traffic law. Now a new signal is starting to be carried by some commercial vehicles to warn of various blind spots and thus avoid accidents in cities.
And now DGT, along with Mercadona, have teamed up to place a new badge that warns of blind spots to improve road safety for drivers and vulnerable users.
this new sticker It is already present in all Mercadona delivery vans. and is located at the rear of the vehicle, as well as in doors or compartments.

However, Mercadona is one of the first private companies to make the move to use this sticker, which is currently voluntary.
In any case, it has already been implemented in public transport in some cities such as Barcelona, Madrid, Zaragoza and Logroño.
The system is one of the ADAS devices that will become mandatory on new trucks and buses starting this summer, in line with new European regulations.
The reason for the introduction of this sticker is to reduce accidents in cities. However, data provided by DGT shows that in 2020, 80% of urban accident deaths were vulnerable users. In particular, we are talking about the death of 153 pedestrians, 134 motorcyclists, 22 cyclists and 7 users of personal vehicles on city roads.
This is also due to the increase in the number of users who use bicycles, scooters or motorcycles in cities. along with an increase in the number of commercial vehicles for the distribution of goods, which already account for up to 25% of traffic in large cities..
Thus, this sign will help to avoid these types of accidents, given that when displayed prominently on delivery vehicles, distribution vehicles, city buses, school buses and heavy trucks, it will alert vulnerable users to the danger if they are located nearby. from them.
