the fleet of Amazon is becoming more ‘green’: in the UK they have entered service five fully electric trucks, the first of its kind to arrive in Europe. The trucks are manufactured by Daf, a Dutch company, and weigh 37 tons.

Each of them mounts a 210kW electric motor and a 350 kWh battery pack. It takes about 70 minutes to fully charge one of these tractors. Daf estimates that each truck can cover about 500 km per day.

Amazon plans to gradually replace its current fleet of heavy diesel vehicles. The ultimate goal is to save 170 tons of CO2 per year, thanks to more than 160,000 kilometers traveled without emissions.

The electric trucks were delivered to the logistics centers of Tilbury and Milton Keynes. They flank the 1,000 electric vans designed for last-mile deliveries right outside the customer’s doorstep.

The DAF CF Electric truck is an important step in the sector towards emission-free distribution in the middle segment. It was developed in response to the growing demand for better air quality and lower CO2 emissions in the transport sector

says Eelco van Veen, Director Fleet Sales at DAF Trucks.

Amazon announced the goal of reduce all CO2 emissions to zero by 2040. That is ten years earlier than the Paris Agreement for all.
