We are talking about the Honorlock surveillance system. Surveillance is the procedure for monitoring and controlling remote testing, i.e. exams. The system made a virtual scan of the students’ room via a webcam.

One of the students said that establishing such oversight is against the Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which prohibits unreasonable searches. The judge’s decision in favor of the student is significant and could set a precedent for millions of students across the country. The use of tools like Honorlock has skyrocketed since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many note the insecurity of such a procedure.
