Wanting to improve the credibility of its extension store, Google announced the arrival of “badges” for additional Chrome software. The innovation will work as a seal of quality both for the solutions and for the developers involved and will be divided into two main categories: “Highlighted” and “Tested” – in free translation into Portuguese.

The first of these is called “Featured”will be awarded to extensions that follow best standards and practices in design and user experience, as well as data security and privacy. In turn, the second badge will be automatically awarded to developers with verified accounts and no history of violating Google’s Developer Program Policies.

The new measure should benefit extension developers as well as improve security for users. According to Google, the innovation could guarantee a privileged position to selected projects in search and filtering results, as well as promote their ads inside and outside the Chrome Web Store.

Eligible developers can submit their projects for evaluation from the 20th of this April. In this context, it is worth noting that the process is analyzed manually by Google and it is not possible to obtain quality seals by other means.
