Scientists from the French Institute INSERM analyzed data from more than 100,000 adults living in France. Participants in the Nutri-Net study self-reported their diet, lifestyle, and medical history from 2009-2021.

As a result, 1502 cases of heart problems emerged in 9 years. These problems included heart attack, stroke, angina pectoris.

According to the results of this study, 346 out of 100,000 people who consume too much sweeteners develop cardiovascular disease, while 314 out of 100,000 people who do not consume artificial sweeteners at all develop cardiovascular disease.

Additionally, another study based on analysis of Nutri-Net data showed an association between cancer and sweeteners (aspartame, acesulfame potassium, sucralose).
