Apple’s Self-Service Repair program has begun. Announced in November 2021, the service will allow users to use official Apple manuals, parts and tools to repair their devices. These are currently available in the United States and in Europe later this year.
For now, the availability of the service is limited to the iPhone 12 and 13 series and the third-generation iPhone SE. Various repair manuals are available on Apple’s own site, but parts are ordered through an authorized third party. Your device serial number is required to purchase parts.

For example, a kit with a battery and some extra consumables for the iPhone SE is available in the online store for $50. Remarkably, you can get about half of that amount back if you return your old battery. It’s unclear whether this portion of the service will also be available outside of the US.
Repair options for Macs with the M1 chip should arrive shortly, according to Apple’s original announcement.
