The day came when you suddenly decided to go on a hunger strike. What awaits you over the next few days and weeks?

First day. You are eating the last piece of delicious food. In the near future, your body will need a lot of glucose, the main component that gives you energy. After six hours, all the food eaten will be broken down and you will feel hungry again. Since you will not eat anything, you may experience irritability and mood swings due to the ghrelin hormone.

The second day. One day later you will wake up very energetic in the morning. The thing is, during sleep, your body tried to conserve energy. Still, you will gradually begin to feel how the energy is slowly leaving you. You will drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration, but that still won’t give you energy for life. Before you go to bed, your mind can play tricks on you and you start seeing food instead of ordinary objects.

The third day. After two days there will be no glucose left in your body. As a result, the liver will begin to produce ketone bodies that can be broken down and used for energy. It also means that a process has begun in the body that will harm other parts of your body. When all ketone bodies are gone, your body will begin to break down itself to produce more energy.

Fourth day. After three days, your body will begin to deplete and break down reserves of various substances. The first trace elements will be carbohydrates and fats. Most often it accumulates in the abdominal cavity. Your metabolism will slow down a lot today and you will feel tired all the time. During this period, your internal organs begin to shrink in size and your body temperature begins to drop. Now it’s harder for you to move even over short distances and it’s even harder to keep your eyes open. Also, your blood pressure drops and your heart rate slows.

The most dangerous effect of fasting is that your brain doesn’t get enough glucose, which means it can’t function properly. If your brain shuts down, you die.

sixth day. Within five days of not eating, your behavior will begin to change. You are more likely to act like a cornered wild animal than a rational person. This is because your brain can no longer function normally and its main task is now the same: survival. As a result, you will become more aggressive, irritable. You will also gradually begin to close the internal organs. One of the first organ systems would be the digestive system. Because of this, you will have diarrhea and begin to lose nutrients along with fluid. At the same time, brain cells begin to die due to a lack of nutrients. This is especially dangerous for the still developing brain, namely the brain of children and teenagers, as it can lead to irreversible neurological damage.

On eighth day the body will consume all its fat and carbohydrate reserves. Now the body will begin to break down the proteins. If this happens, death may come soon. Breaking down proteins for energy can cause seizures or irregular heartbeats. Also, as the kidneys and liver begin to shut down, you will become weaker overall and more toxins will accumulate in your body.

eleventh day. After ten days you will be very cold. You can barely lift your head off the bed, let alone get up. Your eyes have become sensitive to light, so you have to sit in the dark so you don’t get a headache. Because of a weakened immune system, you may begin to cough and often become ill.

On fifteenth day Your teeth will start to rot. You will feel so weak that if you fall asleep it will look like you will not be able to wake up. Your bones have become so brittle you feel they will break if you move. All you can do now is lie on your back and stare into the darkness.

On twenty second day your hair will fall out. In general, you are now nothing more than a skeleton covered in skin. You have no muscle or fat left. Your heart is already starting to shut down and your brain is no longer producing energy. As a result, you die.

Unfortunately, after three weeks without food, you can die even if they give you food, but do it the wrong way. Doctors will have to do an examination to find the best way to restore your body after fasting.

News cannot be equated with a doctor’s prescription. Consult an expert before making a decision.
