Online safety is not a habit for Brazilians. At least, Kaspersky’s research “Fingerprints and their relationship to people and companies” demonstrates this. The study noted that Almost 20% of people in Brazil have problems using a credit card onlineunauthorized use by third parties.

It may seem small, but when you consider how many people use credit as a means of payment for online purchases, the number is frightening, most common in Brazil, where 70% of the population hold three or more cards, according to Serasa.

The lack of attention is such that Kaspersky also pointed out that there are Brazilians among the people of Latin America. those who see the least risk when saving credit card data on websites or apps.

This is definitely the most common way to get scammed: posting information on any website. The second method criminals use is a direct attack on companies with many customers. Along with Argentines, Brazilians leave their payment data registered in online services.

“This is a culture we need to change, people need to take minimal precautions to protect themselves. In the event of a cyberattack, the end customer is not liable, but may suffer losses and have the opportunity to avoid them,” said Fabio Assolini, director of Kaspersky’s Latin America Research and Analysis Team.

Prevention includes enabling purchase alerts via SMS and email, using unique passwords and using a password manager, and avoiding saving payment information or using virtual cards. You also need to be on the lookout for promotions via email, SMS or messaging apps.
