Microsoft and Cloudflare have teamed up to develop a VPN that will soon be integrated into Edge., a Chromium-based web browser. This new feature has not yet been officially announced by the companies, but details about it are already available on the Redmond company’s support page.

This new tool will work under the name Microsoft Edge Secure Network and will offer the same features that we have already seen in other solutions of this type. We are talking about the fact that when activated, it will encrypt the connection to protect users from tracking and computer attacks, and will also hide their location so that they can bypass website blocking.

Once Microsoft Edge VPN becomes available, it can be activated directly from the browser settings. In action, it will be marked with a shield icon that will appear to the right of the address bar.

It is important to note that you will need to sign in with a Microsoft account to use this feature. Thus, the company will be able to control data consumption, this will allow you to use up to 1 GB for free per month. However, no data related to online activity will be stored while the feature is in use.

It is not yet known what plans or payment options Redmond will offer when the free data quota per month is used up, although there will certainly be more details on this in the future. There is also no firm word on when this new feature will be available; At the moment it is only available for a few testers Canarian version as part of a “controlled release”.

Microsoft Edge will take advantage of Cloudflare technology for its own VPN

Microsoft Edge isn’t the first browser to come with a built-in VPN. In fact, Opera has already offered this option since 2016; while Mozilla, the makers of Firefox, also offer a similar service in North America and parts of Asia and Europe, including Spain.

The difference in favor of those from Redmond is that have the support of a leading company like Cloudflare, which also has its own VPN called Warp. This solution is also available for free, although you can get more out of it by paying for a subscription.

In addition, Microsoft ensures that the new Edge variant will comply with strict privacy guidelines to protect users online.

Microsoft Edge Secure Network is a service provided in partnership with Cloudflare. Cloudflare is committed to privacy and collects a limited amount of diagnostic and support data, acting as a data sub-processor for Microsoft to provide services. Cloudflare permanently deletes diagnostic and support data collected every 25 hours.

As we have mentioned on other occasions, Microsoft Edge is a great web browser. The successor to Internet Explorer has made a monumental leap in quality since it was based on Chromium, and in recent years it has incorporated an arsenal of very interesting tools and solutions. There is no doubt that a VPN, in order for users to browse sites with more privacy, would be a very nice addition..
