Ruben Vardanyan will become the head of the Nagorno-Karabakh government. The businessman, who left Russia in September and renounced his citizenship, will take over as prime minister of the republic in early November.
In his message, Ruben Vardanyan stated that after assuming office he will report on the first steps he will take as Minister of State of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh). The president of the republic, Arayik Harutyunyan, offered him to become the prime minister of Nagorno-Karabakh. Vardanyan has previously said that he will not hold public office.
“A month and a half of meetings with the residents of the republic, with its political and public figures, with representatives of different territories and social groups, convinced me that the people support my candidacy for the position of Minister of State of the Republic of Artsakh and I want to see myself as a responsible leader who will gather everyone around him with healthy forces and lead the real work to get the country out of the crisis,” Vardanyan wrote.
A native of Yerevan, Ruben Vardanyan, announced that he would renounce his Russian citizenship and move to Nagorno-Karabakh in September 2022. At the same time, he announced the transfer of his assets in Russia to a family fund under the management of partners.
Entrepreneur and investor Ruben Vardanyan has supported start-ups for many years, invested in various projects and bought shares in Russian companies. In 2011, he sold the Troika Dialog investment firm he founded to Sberbank for $1.35 billion.
