Google announced this week Refreshed in YouTube view This not only aligns the design of the app with the material look adopted by the company across different platforms, but also brings new features that the user can enjoy.

One of the main innovations of the update, zoom videos on mobile devices, do the same pinching motion with your fingers that most people are used to. This is a feature that was tested on YouTube Premium but now works for everyone.

Another major new feature is a frame guide, which makes it easy to navigate a video’s timeline. When you hit the famous “red bar” and move the time of a video, a series of video frames will appear below the line, showing the moment you jumped.

In addition to these practical changes, some visuals are worth mentioning. Google talks about rounder clippings and slightly cleaner and more colorful playlists for videos, but it’s YouTube’s dark mode users who will notice the most changes.

The platform offers both mobile apps and the browser something it calls “ambient light.” This is a faded effect around the video that recognizes the colors that appear on it to simulate a light cast effect. It’s so subtle it’s hard to spot, but Google says the effect was met with “extremely positive feedback” during testing.

Changes will be made over the next few weeks and will appear automatically for users.
