Video conferencing service Zoom (VKS) deactivates licenses for Russian universities, sources among VKS developers told Vedomosti.
One of the interlocutors of the publication said that a “big university” contacted his company, to which the American service disconnected the paid leave until November.
Data from the public procurement portal indicates that the contract for the use of Zoom until November among leading universities was concluded only with the Russian State University of Justice and its branch in Kazan.
But it’s not the only school that has had trouble using Zoom. The Russian State Social University and the Orenburg State Medical University also received denials of service from the American videoconferencing service.
Although there are reports of the use of Zoom by these educational institutions on the organizations’ public pages on the VKontakte social network, university representatives did not respond to the request for publication.
According to Telecom Daily, among video conferencing services, most Russians prefer Zoom. The application was indicated by 77% of the participants in the survey of an analytical company. The Russian equivalent of Yandex.Telemost is used by 22.3% of respondents.
