Yakov & Partners (McKinsey’s former Russian subsidiary) estimated the costs of developing microelectronics in Russia over the next 17 years at 700-800 billion rubles. RBC refers to company research.

The former “daughter” of McKinsey estimated the cost of developing microelectronics in Russia at 700-800 billion rubles.

The estimates were given on the basis of interviews with Russian and international experts, as well as on the basis of analytical materials.

Thus, the expansion of the local production of equipment for the creation of silicon wafers (they serve as the basis for the chips) and equipment for photolithography (drawing a circuit pattern on the wafers), as well as subsidies for research work on these areas, require about 400–500 billion rubles.

The authors of the study believe that it will be possible to establish local production of such equipment by 2030. “Such investments will ensure the basic level of development of the industry, create the foundation for the transition to more modern technological processes, and eventually abandon imports,” it says. the study.

In the period up to 2040, another 300 billion rubles will be needed to develop our own competencies in the development and manufacturing of both basic and modern chips.
