1899 is out on Netflix.
The project involved the authors of the output series “Darkness”, released 5 years ago. Responsible were Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese, the tandem was able to bring Germany (and universal consent) to the fore in the service.
We have already checked all the episodes and are in a hurry to share our impressions. Is there a new “Darkness”? We understand.
We take overclocking
That’s how I would describe the first season.
What is the series about: An international group of immigrants sails on a steamer from Europe to New York, where a new life awaits them. There are people here from completely different countries, divided into first class and “cheap” fees.
4 months before the cruise on the same route of the investigator, another ship of the same vanished shipping company, but under mysterious circumstances. And now the poor man caught his signal ships, the captain decided to help the possible remaining passengers.
However, things don’t turn out as expected. There was not a single living soul left on the ships, more than 1000 people were missing, and all navigation data was destroyed. The only survivor is a little boy who refuses to link to anything that happened.
Like in Darkness, in this series, the authors decided to continue to flirt with the audience, constantly uploading mysteries and mysteries that are in no hurry to upload. With a stock, the situation is generally different.
We are very long and tedious we bring to the heart of the matter, adding information bit by bit. However, in the case of our data, you must handle it yourself, carefully monitor each series. This is not a series that can be watched in the background – you need to follow it. The emphasis is on the process of guessing, and not on the result, which will also be able to surprise, but not everyone.
I cannot say that the local history is as catchy as in the past strong project of a creative tandem. Because of this feeling, we feel dragged out and boring, because something really important is literally thrown to us closer to the final of each episode (sometimes not, but this is rather a rarity).

In places, the history of reminders of the first seasons of “Stay Among the People”: a set of passengers, a disaster, everything is not so simple, many initially knew where they were going, a mysterious company, and so on.
But I can’t say almost anything good about the new characters themselves. All of them are the connecting links of one big law and make demands on it.
Before us, rather dummy with their personal tragedies, but who do not care at all. They do not notice the appearance of some individuals, they are noticeable and use hackneyed stamps.
The main problem of “1899” is solved in the fact that one does not want to delve into the logic and connections within the story, as was the case with “Darkness”. We are given a plus or minus an obvious twist that the trailer (!!!) managed to unravel on the Reddit branch a couple of days before the release of the novelty, which was confirmed by the authors themselves.
So do not expect the same active story as before. This is a simple movie for a sophisticated viewer.
The visuals and soundtrack are questionable
1899 looks like a typical high-budget Netflix project with a decent picture. However, questions often arise.

And in general, the picture is rather dark in the course of the entire scenario. It can be difficult to make out what is actually happening in it.
I have a lot of questions for the musical accompanist. If in the course of events we observe embarrassment with strange creaking and sticking records, then by the end of the episodes, the authors are already using pop compositionwho played everywhere.
It seems that the developers decided not to bother with the new product as much as with their last project. It feels like the series was filmed in a lazy mode.
Cinema is not for everyone
1899 turned out to be an extremely unusual series. It has a good idea and an interesting plot, but it is extremely stretched out (8 hours of episodes) and moves very slowly towards the denouement, which is rather tiring.
Although elements are thrown in for each new series that make you look further, the result is upsetting and makes you doubt the renewal for a second season. For the first half of season 1, you don’t understand at all what they are repeating to us and what it is all about. And this is not a plus, but a minus. Due to the fact that you do not leave on riddles with a bunch of rebus elements, and not understatement, which does not lead to anything sensible.
I am sure that the novelty will have its fans, but this base is less significant than that of “Darkness”.
