Slush overturned Immigram service victory in international “throwing” contest

The winner of the Slush 100 Pitching Competition, where startups present their projects, in 2022 was the Immigram project of Russian founders Anastasia Mirolyubova and Mikhail Sharonov.

As a reward, the project would receive 1 million euros from the investment funds Accel, General Catalyst, Lightspeed Venture Partners, NEA and Northzone.

21 hours after the awards ceremony, Slush organizers took to Twitter to announce that the panel of judges will “be conducting a thorough review of Immigram’s activities.” Slush does not support Russian actions in Ukraine, does not partner with Russian companies and funds, and does not accept applications from Russian-based startups and investors.

On the afternoon of November 21, Slush announced that he had vacated Immigram’s win.

“In light of new information about the activities of the winners of the Slush 100 pitching competition in Russia, Slush has decided to withdraw his victory. Slush has asked the participating funds, which are currently conducting their own assessment, to withdraw their investment.

Slush also stated that they should have “taken a closer look at all the entrants before allowing them to enter the competition.”

Mirolyubova also revealed that “Immigram is leaving the Slush contest.”

  • It is not reported why the competition organizers decided to control the company after the ceremony. But the choice of the winner was previously criticized on social media.
  • Co-founder Anastasia Mirolyubova said after winning the contest that Immigram would donate $100,000 of the proceeds to Ukrainian non-governmental organizations.
  • After Slush’s statement, Immigram circulated a message saying that the company “was founded by immigrants” and has Ukrainian, Tatar, Polish and Russian roots. With investments, the platform was going to expand its geography.

Immigram was launched in 2019. The company helps IT specialists to obtain a visa world talent, move to the UK, find an apartment there and open a bank account. The cost of services depends on the specific case, the average value is 5 thousand pounds. In April, Immigram raised its first $500,000.
