Deputy head of the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan Kaiyp Kulenbekov said that the country’s banks had stopped accepting MIR cards.

The banks decided to refuse to service the Russian card in order to avoid refusal from the US side. Regulators did not give official instructions.

Banks run the risk that correspondent accounts in foreign banks may be blocked, in connection with this their action may be limited. On the other hand, we need to think about our migrants in Russia. Banks proceed from part of the risks, everyone decides for himself.

Kulenbekov also added that there is still a small part of the banking sector in Kyrgyzstan that continues to work with MIR cards.
