The reason for the suspension of work at McDonald’s restaurants in Kazakhstan was problems with supplies from Russia, several sources close to the situation told Reuters.
In November, the temporary closure of McDonald’s in the Central Asian republic was reported. The company did not specify when work would resume.
Kazakh licensee company Food Solutions bought chicken from Russian manufacturer Miratorg, the agency writes, citing company data. Against the background of McDonald’s exit from the Russian market in the spring of 2022, Food Solutions stopped buying and began looking for new suppliers.
According to another source, restaurants have run out of packaging materials, which were also purchased in Russia. It is alleged that this was the reason for the reduction of the menu. Food Solutions is currently establishing a mechanism for deliveries from other countries and plans to open restaurants in December.
Marr, who was one of the suppliers, said he had never worked directly with McDonald’s. All activities were carried out through the Kazakhstan logistics partner HAVI. Earlier it became known that the owner company “Tasty – and the point” will buy the Russian assets of Havi Logistics.
Miratorg said they were collaborating with Vkusno, and that’s the key brand. Another supplier, Cargill Russia, announced the sale of a business related to the American network to the manufacturer Cherkizovo.
“Vkusno — and that’s it” plans to replace McDonald’s restaurants in Belarus. Restaurants under the new brand were supposed to open in the republic on November 22, however, according to media reports, the restaurants worked under the old signs for several more days. However, at the end of the month they were withdrawn.
