Telegram Premium has become one of the most successful examples of a social media subscription plan in history, Telegram founder Pavel Durov wrote on his messaging channel. According to Durov, since the launch of the premium subscription, more than 1 million users have connected it.
“Thanks to successful monetization, Telegram will be able to pay for the servers, traffic, and salaries needed to continue creating new features and supporting existing ones,” said Pavel Durov.
Durov noted that the subscription is only a part of Telegram’s total revenue, reminding that the messenger also earns from advertising. The founder of the company emphasized that one year after the launch of Telegram monetization, its results have already exceeded expectations.
Telegram launched the Telegram Premium subscription in June 2022. At the moment, its cost is 299 rubles per month.
At the end of November, Pavel Durov announced the launch of cryptocurrency exchanges, the creation of decentralized tools for users, and the addition of new features to the Fragment auction platform, which sells unique Telegram usernames.
