Twitter restricts the ability of users to embed links to Mastodon in their tweets. An alternative to Elon Musk’s platform, which became popular days after the mogul completed his purchase of the company. The social network in particular displays the message a warning that the site is “potentially dangerous” and automatically sends the tweet to the drafts section.
How could we make sure hypertext, Twitter blocks messages of any type containing a link to the main Mastodon domain. (mastodon.social) or to any of its various servers, and displays a popup warning that the tweet could not be posted with the following message. “Your tweet could not be sent because this link has been identified by Twitter or our partners as potentially harmful. Please visit our Help Center for more information.”
Elon Musk hasn’t clarified yet why you can’t tweet links to Mastodon. However, there is no doubt that the goal of the tycoon is to limit the reach of the social network which, let’s not forget, is a competitor to Twitter. The social network, in addition, also recently blocked the official Mastodon account. Presumably – and according to edge— for posting a link on Twitter that redirected to the @ElonJet profile on Mastodon, the account that tracked the movements of Elon Musk’s plane and which was also banned from Twitter a few hours ago.
Freedom of speech on Twitter is getting more and more limited
Suspension of Mastodon’s Twitter profile and blocking links to the platform may actually be related to one of Elon Musk’s latest policies. In particular, which of restrict any type of account or content that shares someone’s real-time location. The ruling comes after the mogul permanently blocked a popular profile that tracks the movements of his private jet. Also the main account of Jack Sweeney, who manages the aforementioned bot and who, after the suspension of @ElonJet, began to share links to the same account on other social networks.
Jack Sweeney even created an Elon Jet profile on Mastodon.; which, we repeat, was shared by the platform’s Twitter account moments before Elon Musk also suspended it. Twitter even began to restrict some links that redirected to Elon Jet’s Facebook or Instagram profiles. Strikingly, though, Musk doesn’t just limit links to a profile that follows his plane to Mastodon. It also blocks every one of them, regardless of account or server.
Elon Musk also blocks the accounts of journalists who talked about him in their publications. In all cases with articles that left the mogul in a bad place. One of them, for example, showed that Elon Musk is not paying his Twitter bills due to the huge losses that the company is incurring.
