“Acute respiratory viral infections are caused, as the name suggests, by viruses. Antibiotics are antimicrobials designed primarily to fight bacteria. Therefore, doctors prescribing treatment and patients who, unfortunately, often “prescribe” certain medications to themselves, should remember that antibiotics do not work on viruses,” he said.
