HE IS SkypeMicrosoft’s messaging and calling app. published a new resource this week to help people in need speak in other languages using the platform. Application using artificial intelligence (AI) is now Translate your lines into another language using your own voice.
The program already had a feature that worked similarly. You say the sentence, wait for the AI to interpret and translate it, and then your speech is repeated in the other language. But to do this, a robotic voice was used, unlike call participants.
The big change is that artificial intelligence now tries to simulate the voice of the interlocutors. The video below shows a comparison:
For security reasons, artificial intelligence processing takes place in real time to translate your speech and simulate your voice. That is, the robot does not create and “record” a version of your voice, it simply simulates an imitation as soon as it translates.
The new feature obviously has limitations. For now, it only works in a few selected languages, including English, Spanish, French, German, and Chinese. It’s also only available for Skype conversations between two people, with the promise of making it available in group conversations later.
