Former Twitter top managers Alphonso Terrell and DeVaris Brown discussed the creation of the Spill social network. It is conceived as a “real-time communication platform that prioritizes” support for minorities.
As Spill’s founders told TechCrunch, the new social network should become “a haven for Black Twitter content creators,” an unofficial community within Twitter, made up primarily of African-American users of the platform.
“While Spill is for everyone, we care about cultural leaders who often set new trends, but often go unnoticed and underappreciated,” Terrell wrote in the app’s Twitter announcement. “Yes, we mean black authors, queer authors, and many influential voices outside of the United States.”
The Spill app is scheduled to launch in January 2023.
The creators of Spill plan to use blockchain technology in the content monetization process. With your help, it will be determined how much a particular post “went viral” in order to pay the author adequate compensation.
Alphonso Terrell served as Twitter’s global head of social media and editorial for the past three years, until he was fired last month after Elon Musk joined the company.
DeVaris Brown was a senior product manager at Twitter for more than a year before leaving the company in 2020 to create the startup Meroxa.
