As Bloomberg learned, McDonald’s could leave Kazakhstan due to a disruption in supply chains. In November 2022, the chain’s 24 restaurants have already suspended their work.
According to Bloomberg, McDonald’s has banned its franchisees in Kazakhstan from buying cutlets in Russia. At the same time, the company is unable to purchase products from European or local suppliers due to higher prices and transportation costs.
In early December, manufacturers in Kazakhstan announced their willingness to supply products for a fast food restaurant chain. This proposal was made by the President of the Poultry Breeders Union, the Executive Director of the Dairy Union and the Director of the Department of the Agro-industrial Complex and Food Industry of the NCE “Atameken”.
The first McDonald’s restaurant in Kazakhstan opened in 2016. At the time of the temporary closure, there were 24 chain restaurants in the country.
