Microsoft announced Windows 7 will no longer receive security updates from Tuesday (10). Professional and Enterprise editions of the operating system (OS) are still patches critical security issues through the company’s extended update program.
It is worth remembering that Windows 7 was first released in 2009, roughly 14 years ago. Official support of the system ended in 2015, with extended support reaching 2020. However, security updates and vulnerability patches were maintained for the Professional and Enterprise editions.
From there, it can be difficult to update computer operating systems in a company due to compatibility with other software.
Updating is not always easy
However, upgrading to Windows 11 remains a complex process due to the hardware requirements of the latest version of the system. Microsoft itself is aware of the challenge and points out that although the system’s days are numbered, Windows 10 is still an option.
“Most Windows 7 devices are not equipped to upgrade to Windows 11, alternatively, Windows 7 compatible PCs can be upgraded to Windows 10 by purchasing and installing the full version of the software. Note that support for Windows 10 will end on October 14, 2025.
