The VKontakte social network announced the development of a service to recognize deepfakes. Users will be able to independently verify the authenticity of videos and images.

VKontakte will launch a deepfake recognition service within six months

“VKontakte is already working on technology to recognize deepfakes. It will be possible to check the photos or videos uploaded to the platform for manipulations related to the face, for example, a change in editors or the replacement of one person with another,” the press service of the social network told RB.RU.

The new feature is scheduled to be released within six months.

Plans to create services for recognizing fakes on video are contained in the product technological map of the roadmap for the development of the high-tech area “New software for the entire system,” TASS previously reported. At the same time, the developers and the timing of the project were not indicated in the roadmap.

Previously, VKontakte added a “Deepfake” function, which allows you to try on the faces of famous people in the “VK clips” editor or in a mini-application.
