Yana Yurakova, an analyst with the Positive Technologies research group, warned that the offer to pay for goods in a store by transfer to a card should alert. Scammers may be hiding behind a company account.
On January 11, the attackers stole access to the Russian clothing brand 2MOOD’s Instagram account*, saying that orders are now accepted only through personal messages on the profile instead of the official website, and also released a sale, writes the agency Prime. with reference to RIA Novosti.
Scammers sent card details for payment. The expert recommended not to correspond with an individual about the purchase of goods. It is worth carefully studying the information about the store, the description usually indicates contacts with whom and where you can discuss the purchase of a particular product and service.
Group-IB analyst from the Department of Digital Risk Protection Evgeny Egorov added that this type of fraud is far from new, but it can cause serious financial and reputational losses for the account owner.
Fraudsters can obtain victim’s account data, and the stolen account is often used for ransom or sold to third parties, posting ads on fraudulent resources for illegal activities on behalf of the account owner.
