The scientists invited men aged 18 to 74 years for the experiment. They took a survey. The researchers lied to them that the survey evaluated users’ memorization of information while shopping. Men were first shown a kind of “truth” and then asked to rate their willingness to purchase a product. Among the “facts” was something about the “average size of a penis”. He left before he asked to evaluate his desire to buy a sports car.
Some participants received a “real” with an average penis size of 12 centimeters, and the other 18 centimeters. In the first case, the figure was underestimated relative to the real one, in the second case it was overestimated. As it turned out, those who bought an expensive option were more likely to express a desire to buy a sports car. The effect was particularly pronounced in men over 30 years of age.
