The number of Finnish companies working with Russia decreased by 85%

By the end of 2022, the number of Finnish companies working with Russia decreased by 85%, said Olli-Pekka Penttilä, head of the Finnish customs department. The official did not name the exact number of such companies, but specified that there were fewer than a hundred of them left.

The sanctions caused Russia’s share of Finland’s imports to more than triple between March and November last year, from 12.3% to 3.6%. Now 95% of Finnish trade is carried out by sea, the customs added.

After the start of the special operation in Ukraine, many Finnish companies stopped doing business in Russia, including the coffee producer Paulig, owner of the Nordic brand of muesli and cereals. Ponsse Plc, a maker of logging machines, and Nokian Tires, spoke about plans to reduce work in Russia.
