Microsoft announced that it will be released on Thursday (19). Tab support in Windows 11 Notepad, functionality that was unintentionally uncovered by a company employee at the end of last year. Initially, the feature is exclusive to testers enrolled in the Insider program.
As noted in the statement by the Redmond giant, the highly requested function by users allows you to create, manage and edit multiple files in the same window of the Notepad application. The mechanism is similar to that found in Edge, Chrome, and Firefox browsers, among others.
There is also an option to continue working with files in multiple windows by dragging a tab into the open window. Another novelty is the possibility to configure the default opening of files in new tabs or in a new window in the text editor according to the user’s preferences.

According to major tech, some users may encounter issues with certain keyboard shortcuts during testing, which will affect their experience. The company stated that it is trying to fix these and other minor bugs to ensure the best performance.
But after all the fixes in the beta version, the tabs should bring it to the stable version of Notepad and become generally available. However, there is no estimate yet on when this update will be available to everyone.
