RTX 4090 Founders Edition has been tested with ASUS Zenbook 14X Space Edition laptops. As it turns out, the video card can lose up to 20% of performance when used as an eGPU.
This is a huge loss in performance, but keep in mind that the video card is connected to a small laptop not designed for gaming. The only problem with this particular setup is the cost. The GPU alone is $1,600 and the chassis is another $300.
