THEM Apple released iOS 16.3 today (23) with bug fixes and new features. New additions include security keys for Apple ID, which allow users to strengthen the security of the account, which may now require a physical key as part of the two-factor authentication process.

Still on the security front, the software update brings the total number of data categories protected by iCloud Advanced Data Protection encryption to 23.

iOS 16.3 also includes HomePod 2nd Gen compatibility, a new “Union” wallpaper that pays homage to Black history and culture, and more. Check out the news about the latest version of the iPhone operating system below:

  • Emergency SOS calls now require holding down the side button along with the volume up or down button and then releasing the button to prevent unwanted emergency calls.
  • Fixes an issue in Freeform where some strokes created with Apple Pencil or finger may not appear in shared frames;
  • Fixes an issue where the background image appears black on the lock screen.
  • Fixes an issue that temporarily caused horizontal lines to appear when waking the iPhone 14 Pro Max
  • Fixes an issue where the Home app widget on the Lock Screen was not displaying the app status correctly;
  • Addresses an issue where Siri may not respond properly to music requests.
  • Resolves issues where requests to Siri in CarPlay may not be understood correctly

Apple took advantage of the release date of macOS Ventura 13.2 and iPadOS 16.3 in addition to iOS 16.3. While the latter contains no major news, the former comes with fixes and a new feature that supports items for apps using Swift App Lifecyle.
