Customs duties on imports of electronics and equipment to Russia fell by 40%. Experts cited the departure of foreign suppliers and the incompletely legal activities of resellers as the main reasons for this drop.

Customs duties for imports of electronics and equipment fell 40%

According to the results of 2022, the Russian budget received 40% less customs duties on the import of imported household appliances and electronics, dealers familiar with the statistics of the customs service told Kommersant.

Alexey Pogudalov, commercial director of Holodilnik.ru, suggested that the drop in rates may be due to the contraction of the market as a whole. In 2022, sales of home appliances and electronics fell 10% across all categories, and in some months 20-30%.

According to market representatives, the main reason for the decrease in customs duties is the departure from Russia of official suppliers of imported products and the increase in the number of resellers who do not issue customs documents for imported products.

The publication’s source noted that, in particular, regional networks work with resellers. The same interlocutor expects customs duties to fall another 40% in 2023 if current market conditions continue.
