Internal samples taken by Windows Central show that the updated app will feature a redesigned header with a modern file directory window, a search box, and a new home button.
The homepage itself goes into deeper integration with Microsoft 365. At the top there will be a ribbon of “recommended” files.
Even the left navigation bar gets updated with more rounded buttons and more. Many of the changes will also help make File Explorer more touch-friendly. Also, Microsoft is working on a better photo browsing experience through the new Gallery pane.
Windows Central writes that Microsoft aims to release a File Explorer update before the end of 2023.
