According to retired US Army officer Matthew Dooley, Western tanks are the result of a “Western design philosophy” that is fundamentally different from the Soviet tank. Western tanks are heavier than Soviet tanks and do not have automatic loaders. Teams can be trained in 5-6 weeks. However, the training of specialists in the maintenance of machines can take up to a year.
Former British Army officer Nicholas Drummond agrees with Dooley. He believes that the Leopard 2 was created for the soldiers of the line service, because the training of the Ukrainian army should be relatively easy. According to him, the training of technical specialists will take more time. Drummond also thinks it took a year.
