SpaceX sends Falcon 9 into orbit with record payload mass

The Falcon 9 super-heavy rocket was launched on the morning of January 26 from Cape Canaveral, in the US state of Florida. SpaceX launched 56 Starlink satellites into low Earth orbit.

The total mass of all the satellites, or the so-called payload, was 17.4 metric tons, or 19.4 tons. This is a record mass in history that a rocket has carried into space in one flight, SpaceX noted.

This was the ninth launch of SpaceX’s Falcon 9 launch vehicle in 2023 and the 205th in launch history. The last launch took place on January 19: the company put 51 Starlink satellites into orbit.

SpaceX has already deployed 3,400 spacecraft into orbit under the Starlink satellite communications project.
