Scientists noted that universal solutions do not work for everyone. However, there are methods that are likely to help many people.

Researchers conducted an 18-month study involving overweight people. More than 80% of the participants were women and their average age was 48 years. They were divided into several groups: one tested the new HWL program, the other – tested the HWL with some changes. Also, some participants did the program in person with a nutritionist, while others conducted it via video link.

The HWL approach addresses biological factors (hunger, craving, and food preferences) before eating and develops intrinsic motivation for behavioral changes that lead to weight loss.

Results of the study showed that at the 6-month mark, weight loss among participants was 8.8% in the HWL group with improvement in overall health. Over 5% weight loss was maintained at 18 months in both groups.
