Georgian parliamentary party calls for visa-free stay reduction for Russians

The “For Georgia” party has submitted a resolution to the Georgian Parliament to reduce the period of visa-free stay for Russians in the country, reports Interpress News.

At the moment, Russian citizens can stay in Georgia without a visa for a continuous year. After crossing the border, this period is reset to zero.

Opposition politicians are in favor of banning “uncontrolled migration” of Russians to Georgia and against the resumption of direct flights between the countries; in the latter, the Georgian president also supports the party. Senator and former Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Grigory Karasin spoke about Russia’s readiness to resume flights earlier.

Following the announcement of the mobilization in Russia, more than 700,000 Russians crossed the border with Georgia, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili cited the data. Georgia is also one of the most popular countries for relocation of Russians.
