The Bank of Russia issued a commemorative coin depicting the greatest representative of Russian realism in literature. The coin with Alexander Ostrovsky was created for the 200th anniversary of the writer and was included in the Outstanding People of Russia series.

“Dedicated to the Master of Russian Drama”: the Central Bank issued a new commemorative coin

The Bank of Russia has replenished the series of coins with “outstanding persons of Russia”. The collection includes a coin with the image of the Russian playwright, the greatest representative of Russian realism Alexander Ostrovsky.

The obverse of the coin shows the coat of arms of the Russian Federation, the inscription “Russian Federation”, information about the metal and alloy used in production, and the denomination of the coin is 2 rubles.

The reverse side shows a portrait of the writer Alexander Ostrovsky, a scene from one of his most famous works “Thunderstorm”, a facsimile of the playwright’s signature and the years of his life.

A silver coin with a face value of 2 rubles was issued in a print run of 3 thousand pieces. The weight of the precious metal in purity is 15.55 g, the alloy is 925 samples.

Alexander Ostrovsky is the greatest representative of Russian realism in literature. The playwright wrote 47 plays, many of which, for example, The Storm, The Dowry, Balzaminov’s Marriage, are still staged in Russian theaters.

In August 2022, the Bank of Russia issued a rectangular coin for the first time in seven years. The “Caring for Tigers” coin is dedicated to the Amur Tiger Conservation Forum, which took place in September.
